Waste Management Recognizes Winning Teacher at Del Rio Elementary in Oceanside for Participation in Newspaper in Education Program
|
Representatives from Waste Management of North County/Coast Waste Management will present a $250 check to Del Rio Elementary School teacher Bill Joolingen and his 4th grade class for use in the purchase of classroom supplies as recognition for their participation in the Waste Management of North County and Coast Waste Management Newspaper in Education Program.
The company, which provides waste and recycling collection services throughout North County, sponsored an environmental education-themed program in partnership with the North County Times. Between Oct. 15 and Nov. 15, 26 teachers in Oceanside and Carlsbad received free weekly deliveries of the North County Times as well as the "Earth Savers" environmental education curriculum developed by Waste Management, and provided classroom and home-based activities to their students to teach them about recycling, conservation and other environmental themes.
Mr. Joolingen’s class was selected in a random drawing from surveys provided by those classes participating in the program. Waste Management also recognized Calavera Hills Middle School teacher Bob Peterson and his sixth grade science classes in Carlsbad for their participation in the program in that city.
