Waste Management Announces Service Day Changes in Solana Beach
Service in some regions will switch days starting on Nov. 6; no trash service will occur on Tuesday due to street sweeping

SOLANA BEACH, Oct. 23, 2006 - Approximately 1,600 homes in some regions of Solana Beach will experience a change in their trash and recycling service days, starting the week of Monday, Nov. 6.

Residents in the affected regions will be notified through door hangers at their homes. The routing changes are being made to better coordinate citywide trash and recycling collection efforts with street sweeping schedules and also to facilitate the upcoming implementation of an automated collection system for trash and recyclables within the city.

“The new collection days will help to ensure efficient citywide routing of our collection trucks and also help to maintain quality collection services,” said Ken Ryan, District Manager for Coast Waste Management in Carlsbad. “We continually evaluate our routes to ensure we are providing the best and most efficient service to our customers. We sometimes need to make changes to ensure everything is balanced and our customers receive the service they expect. We also want to make sure there are no obstacles in the street when the street sweepers come to service the region.”

Due to street sweeping that is scheduled for Tuesday by the City of Solana Beach, all homes west of I-5 that are currently scheduled for Tuesday service from Waste Management will be serviced instead on Friday. Those residents west of I-5 that receive Monday service will continue to receive service as scheduled, except for homes in the Triple Crown Homeowners’ Association (HOA), which will change service from Monday to Friday.

Residents of the southeastern portion of Solana Beach – with homes east of Interstate 5 and south of Lomas Santa Fe – will have a new service day of Thursday. The residential community along Via Mil Cumbres will continue to have Thursday service.

All homes in the northeastern section of Solana Beach, along and north of Santa Helena, Sun Valley and San Mario Drive, which currently are primarily serviced on Wednesday, will continue to be serviced on Wednesday. The HOA community of St. Francis Court will also be serviced on Wednesday.

The streets or HOAs affected by the change are impacted in the manner indicated in the attached PDF file (NOTE: This document is in PDF format, and Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view.)

Any streets or neighborhoods not mentioned in the chart in the attached PDF file will not experience a change in their service day.

“We appreciate our customers’ cooperation and patience during this re-routing process,” said Ryan. “We hope that by making this change, we can serve our customers in a more efficient manner over the longer term and to better accommodate the city’s street sweeping schedule.”
