Waste Management trash/garbage and recycling truck

Oceanside - Residential Service Guidelines

Customers can use their own cans for trash collection or Waste Management can provide a 64 or 96 gallon cart for a small annual fee. For those customers that supply their own cans, Waste Management will service any cans up to 35 gallons (with a 50-pound limit) and up to 12 trash cans per household per week (including any Waste Management-provided carts). For those customers who provide their own cans, we prefer cans with detachable lids. Waste Management provides customers with a cart for the collection of greenwaste and two crates for the collection of mixed recyclables and paper.  Trash, recyclables and greenwaste are picked up weekly.

Disposal of Used Motor Oil

It is important to properly dispose of used motor oil to ensure it stays out of our storm drains and the ocean. Next time you change your oil, be sure to follow these steps:

  • Remove the oil filter from your car and drain it well for at least 24 hours - once it is drained, place it in a plastic bag.
  • Drain the oil from your car into a plastic container.
  • Secure the top on the container to ensure against spillage.
  • Once the items are secure, transport them to a certified used oil recycling center.

There are a number of options for proper and safe disposal of used motor oil and filters:

  • Many auto or tire supply stores or service centers will accept used motor oil and filters. The Integrated Waste Management Board offers a list searchable by zip code to locate a recycler near you. Call in advance to make sure they will take the items and to verify store hours.
  • Take the used oil along with other household hazardous waste to your local HHW center, located at 2880 Industry St. in Oceanside. Appointments are required to drop off used oil along with other HHW on Saturdays. To find out the schedule and make an appointment, contact customer service at 1(800) DUMPSTER. Oceanside residents only can also bring used motor oil, antifreeze and oil filters to the facility at 2880 Industry St. between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday; no appointment is required to bring these materials on weekdays. However, proof of Oceanside residency is required.

Additional information may be found at the Earth 911 Web site or by calling 1(800) CLEANUP (1-800-253-2687).
